"Ooh, friend!"
―Simon's old catchprase, which was usually to Jay Cartwright

Simon Cooper[1] (born 1990) is a fictional character from the E4 coming-of-age British sitcom, The Inbetweeners, in which he is portrayed by Joe Thomas[2]. He makes his first appearance during the pilot episode, "First Day", which was first broadcasted on May 1, 2008. He makes his appearance in every episode throughout the series, as well as appearing in the follow-up feature films, "The Inbetweeners Movie" (2011) and "The Inbetweeners 2" (2014).

Simon serves as a main character, along with Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright and Neil Sutherland, whom are also the people in his friendship group. While others in the group may have some sexual experience or girlfriend, Simon has managed to get more girlfriends than anyone else shown in the series.

Background

Characterisation

Simon plays a major role in the series and is a very prominent character. He is mainly-seen attempting to impress girls, with a fixation over his childhood crush, Carli D'Amato. The only problem with Simon trying to get with girls is that he is not too socially-good and is quite awkward. Despite this, he still usually manages to convince women to like him. Unfortunately, there are more downsides to his personality traits, mainly being that he will usually lie in order to impress a girl and when he has to then actually achieve the goal he made up, things get difficult. A perfect example of this trait he has is the whole plotline of the episode "The Gig and the Girlfriend", where Simon, being very desperate to impress a girl, ended up saying that he takes illegal drugs and for most of the episode tried getting weed. Sometimes he can be so desperate to be with whoever he is trying to get with, to the point where he will actually take Jay's completely made-up advice.

Although Simon is not that good at communicating with girls, he usually manages to get in a relationship with them, regardless and has had more girls than anyone else out of the group (as mentioned earlier).

Simon is supposed to be a character that audience of the show can relate to, either feeling like that is how they used to act themselves or if they knew a friend around the same age group as Simon, who had many similar characteristics that Simon is portrayed to have. This was the initial ideas the writes of the show had and most audiences would argue that was the execution as well.

Criminal Record

  • Underage Drinking: In First Day, Carli's boyfriend at the time, Tom bought a pint of lager for Simon, since Tom was old enough to buy alcohol, whereas Simon was not.
    • In the episode "Bunk Off", Will bought some Beefeater gin, Drambuie and possibly some other unmentioned brands of alcohol for him and his friends (including Simon) to share, whilst they were bunking off school.
  • I LOVE CARLY D'AMATO
Vandalism: In Bunk Off, Simon wrote on Carli's house's driveway in spray paint, reading "I LOVE CARLY D'AMATO", misspelling her first name when he was drunk.
    • In the episode "Will Is Home Alone", Simon vandalised a few peoples' flower beds, by kicking them and occasionally using a golf club. He also kicked Will's flowers in his back garden.
  • Speeding: In the episode "Caravan Club", Simon was speeding illegally in his car, going up to maximum speed only to prove a point that his Fiat Cinquecento "Hawaii" car was better than how the others interpreted it.

Occupations

Simon at a plant hire yard

Though technically not an actual occupation, Simon was working at a plant hire yard for work experience at his school in the episode "Work Experience"

Biography

Role

Simon is usually used for speaking with women, to make scenes relatable to events that may have happened in other people's lives. Simon has to lie a lot, so he has higher chances of succeeding his mission to get together with a girl in a romantic and possibly sexual relationship.

Series 1 (2008)

In Simon's first appearance, he was seen in his classroom, which Will also went in. They first properly met when Mr. Gilbert assigned Simon to take care of Will, by showing him where the classes were.

MY EMETOPHOBIA

Simon vomiting on Carli's kitchen counter

In Bunk Off, Carli discovered that Simon had feelings for her, after he spray painted the message for her on her driveway. Carli, of course, at first was out of her mind when she saw him vandalising her driveway, but surprisingly, ended up thinking it was cool and saw a creative edge to the graffiti. She invited Simon to come over to her house later that night and they could hang-out and most importantly; clean up the message. The only bad thing about this situation was that Simon had drank even more before coming over to Carli's, making him embarrass himself in front of her. Simon may have messed up his chance to be getting with Carli because he told her to finger herself in front of him, which only made Carli cross at him. However, the tip of the iceberg was him projectile vomiting on both her kitchen worktop and her seven-year-old brother, Chris D'Amato. Because of the vandalism and a bunch of other events that had happened that day, this got Simon in a lot of trouble.

In the episode "Thorpe Park", Simon passed his practical driving test and was given a new car by his parents, which he strongly hated at first, due to it being older and somewhat outdated to a young person, but later learned to treat it with some respect as his father told him it was the only gift he was ever going to get. When Simon was reversing his car, Jay impatiently opened Simon's car's door, resulting in the right door falling off and it was subsequently replaced by a red door.

In Caravan Club, Simon went to along to Caravan Club with his friends, just to prove Jay wrong, because he said it is "like a massive orgy". Everything was going well, until Simon decided to make a sexual move on a girl he found there, named Becky - one of the Caravan Club owner's daughters - taken from Jay's terrible advice.

In Series 1's finale, Simon went to a Christmas prom with Carli, which may have boosted up his chances of getting with her.

Series 2 (2009)

Manky water

Simon falling into a river

In the episode "The Field Trip", the school were going to Swanage and the Geography and Sociology pupils were travelled by coach. On the journey, Will sat down next to an attractive new pupil from Northern Ireland, Lauren Harris. After they arrived at their accommodation, Lauren started to take an interest in Simon, with him also taking a liking to her. Later, Simon and his friends tagged along on a boat ride, which Will had originally intended for himself and Lauren, in the hopes of impressing her. Since he ignored Will's advice, Simon stood up on the boat and Jay rocked the sides of it as a joke, resulting in Simon falling into the dirty harbour water, which was extremely cold and almost gave him hypothermia.

In the episode "Work Experience", it was Valentine's Day and Simon was the only person who got a real card. The girl who sent the card was a student in the year below him, named Hannah Fields. For most of the day, Simon had work experience working at a plant hire yard, being supervised by Jay's father. Later that day, it just so happened by coincidence that Simon saw Hannah at an under-18s' disco party. Simon later received a handob from Hannah, but abruptly ended, after Simon got beaten up by a twelve-year-old he provoked earlier in the episode.

In Series 2's finale, Simon and Carli's relationship was becoming stronger, since she had ended her relationship with her tall, rugby player boyfriend at the time, Tom and Simon was willing to help her study for her A-Levels. Much to the dismay of Simon at the end of the episode, Carli started getting back with Tom.

Series 3 (2010)

In the episode "The Fashion Show", Simon took part in his school's fashion show, which was all going smoothly, until he was embarrassed by himself and Carli, by walking along a catwalk in Speedos, with his left testicle accidentally sticking out, exposing it to the audience.

In the episode "The Gig and the Girlfriend", Simon met a girl, named Tara Brown and later got together and went to a concert with her. At the concert, he tried weed for the first timem that came from Jay. He may have damaged his lungs, since he started coughing after this puff.

Moviedoubledate

Will and Simon's double date

In the episode "Will's Dilemma", Simon went on a double date with Will, with Simon going to the cinema with Tara, whilst Will also went to that same screening with a girl, labelled as "Big Kerry". Whilst they were at the cinema, Jay and Neil decided to stick a bumper sticker on the back of Simon's car, reading "HONK IF YOU WANT A BLOWJOB", which gave Tara's father a bad first impression of him, as he did not see the funny side. Simon and Tara later attended Neil's eighteenth birthday party together. At the party, they felt like they needed some time alone to have oral sex and got permission from Neil to borrow his bed, but had to follow the rule to not ejaculate over his bedsheets. Simon ended up receiving a handjob from Tara, but was cut off when she went to go downstairs because she thought she heard Big Kerry upset.

In the episode "Trip to Warwick", Tara thought that she and Simon were together for a while and suggested to have sex. Simon wanted to, but was not very experienced and did not know where to do it. Tara recommended they go to her sister, Sophie's house in Warwick and have sex there. Unfortunately, Simon was unable to get an erection and took Jay's advice to: Masturbate, sniff Tara's sister's underwear and get Tara to put a condom on with her mouth, but obviously did not work.

In Series 3's finale, Simon was informed that his family were going to move to Swansea, which would separate him from his friends.

Movies

The Inbetweeners Movie

At the beginning of The Inbetweeners Movie, Carli, unfortunately informed him that she wanted to end their relationship because they were both going to different universities and would not be able to see each other anymore, so there would not be a point for them to even be in a relationship. Simon sank into a deep depression after this, but went on a "mental lads holiday" with Will, Jay and Neil.

Things went from bad to worse, when Neil revealed that he purposely picked the boys a one-star hotel, just because it was the closest hotel to Carli and her friends are staying at.

Later that night, Simon met Carli outside a club and unfortunately, he also meets James - an aggressive, obnoxious holiday rep and also Carli's new boyfriend. This wrecked any chances Simon had to get back together with her and to add insult to injury, James "accidentally" ran over Simon with a quad bike.

To help Simon get over his obsession with Carli, Jay kept punching him in his testicles every time he mentioned her. Later in a club, four girls walked in and started talking to the boys, one of the girls, Lucy was obviously attracted to Simon, even though he was only talking about his love for Carli.

Simon and the boys heard about a boat party, that Carli was attending, so they head over to her hotel but instead, they found the four girls again. Jay then got the boys banned from the boat trip for nearly drowning a local boy and an enraged Simon fought with Jay in the street until he storms off, with Will following.

A depressed Simon headed to a bar, where they first met the four girls and met Jay there. Jay shocked Simon, by apologising for his behaviour and they make friends again.

They then encountered the girls again and Simon and Lucy decided to go skinny dipping, apparently forming some kind of connection, that is until Carli walked by and abandoned Lucy in the sea to talk to her, even though Carli did not really want to talk with him and left Lucy on herself, to feel rejected.

Simon, along with Will, Jay and Neil, realised the holiday to Greece was a complete waste of time, until they got extremely drunk and head back to the hotel.

Once there, Simon seemed to upset Jay, after telling him that when they get home he is going to university.

The next morning, Lucy's friends told Simon to apologise to her. He does so and she offered him a ticket to the boat party, which he eagerly accepted, after leaving her alone on the beach. On the boat, Carli passionately kissed Simon, much to his joy. That is until he realised that she was only flirting to make James jealous, suddenly Simon realised that Carli was not the right girl for him, but rather instead Lucy was. Simon decided to show his love to her, by jumping off the ship and swimming back to shore, but he soon got caught in the current and was airlifted by air ambulance. This resulted in him being transported to hospital. Simon spent the rest of his holiday enjoying himself with Lucy and later returned home, ready for whatever the future would bring.

The Inbetweeners 2

Simon was somehow still in a relationship with Lucy, although he was unhappy, as she has turned too needy for him. Like Will, Jay and Neil, he had went his separate ways, studying Sociology at Sheffield University.

Whilst visiting Will at Bristol University with Neil, Neil received a message from Jay, claiming that he had a successful DJ career in a nightclub and now lived in a luxurious mansion in Australia. Despite finding his claim hard to believe, bored out of their minds, they all agreed to go visit Jay in Australia for the Easter holidays. Before leaving for Down Under, Lucy blackmailed Simon, demanding for him to not cheat on her, by cutting one of his up his hoodies.

When they arrived to Australia, they discovered that Jay did in fact work at a popular nightclub, but was only the toilet attendant. While at the club, Will is invited by his old friend from his private school days, Katie to join them at Byron Bay, which Simon, along with Jay and Neil also agreed to. They also discovered that Jaywas living inside of a tent in the front garden outside his Uncle Bryan's house.

Simon got permission from Jay to use his computer, so he could break up with Lucy on a Skype call. However, Uncle Bryan interferes, resulting in Lucy believing that Simon had just proposed to her, to which she accepted. Simon also found an image of Jane (Jay's ex-girlfriend) on his computer, wearing Splash Planet uniform.

The next morning, Simon travelled with Will, Jay and Neil to join the gap year travellers at Byron Bay. Lucy also began to send him videos of her cutting up some of his hoodies, once again and burning his trainers.

After they arrived at the youth hostel, Katie invited the boys to come to Splash Planet the next day.

After they got to Splash Planet, Simon agreed to help Jay search the water park for Jane - now understanding the true reason of why he was in Australia. Simon's participation in the search ends after he is attacked by a little boy's father, due to Jay making him seem like a paedophile, by pushing him onto the little boy's crutch, when he could not swim and claimed to a member of staff that he was one when Simon insisted that he "loves children".

After being attacked and receiving a black eye, Simon found Will and told him that Jane was in the park and that was the real reason why Jay was so insistent on coming to Splash Planet. Simon also viewed Neil, accidentally defecating onto Will's face, resulting in Will projectile vomiting, out of pure disgust and made the park close down.

When they left, they found Jay in the car park, extremely depressed.

After Jay further admitted to Will and Neil about only taking a gap year in Australia to find Jane, Simon reveals that due to him and Lucy becoming engaged, she asked Jane to become one of her bridesmaids and would therefore know where Jane is.

Simon again called Lucy on Skype, to find out that Jane was working on a stud farm in the remote settlement of Birdsville, also revealing that she has asked her friend from university, Pete to be his best man at their wedding.

Simon along with Neil agreed to leave Byron Bay and help Jay to find Jane, with Will, however, being convinced that he has a chance with Katie and decided to stay with her and the other travellers, much to the others disappointment. Will's decision also caused himself and Simon to have an extremely hostile argument before leaving.

While travelling, Simon received a message from Lucy of her microwaving his PlayStation.

After getting thrown out of a farm while searching for Jane, Will found them and apologised for everything he said to them back at Byron Bay.

They all reconcile and continue their search for Jane. In the middle of the desert, Jay's car runs out of fuel and they become stranded without any source of liquid. Due to extreme thirst, Simon resorted to drinking Neil's urine, though this only backfired when it resulted in Neil urinating all over his face. Believing they will all soon die, Simon has a heart-to-heart conversation with Will, Jay and Neil. They all hold hands and close their eyes, believing they were soon going to be dead. Moments later, they are found by Jane and her co-workers, who also revealed that they had only been stranded for two hours.

After getting rescued, Simon once again Skype called Lucy and told her that he loved her and would willingly marry her, despite the abuse she had given him. Lucy then reveals that she has been having an affair with his Pete and broke up with him, thus calling the engagement over. Simon responded by cheering and abruptly hanging up on her. Extremely happy and up-lifted after his relationship with Lucy is over, he agreed to spend the rest of his Easter holidays with Will, Jay and Neil in Vietnam.

While they were shooting, Simon covered his target with a picture of Pete.

When returning back to the United Kingdom, Simon was greeted kindly by his family, but began to abuse his mother with his language, when she welcomed him and also began to swear at his father, when he took amusement over his new tattoo, that he received whilst he was in Vietnam.

Personality

MV5BMTg1ODMwNjkwM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNTg4MDY0Mg@@

Along with Will, Simon is generally seen as part of the more level-headed and maturer than half the group, though he is shown to be easily swooned. He appears at times to be somewhat neurotic and prone to bouts of hysterical swearing at the slightest provocation and responds to the boys' jocular, but offensive comments with extreme anger in particular scenes, once quoting that all French people are weird because they apparently "barely say anything and when they do speak, it's always about sex". Simon reacts similarly, when interacting with members of his family, but slightly more outraged. He is intelligent, but lacks common sense and confidence. Simon is at most times gullible, usually taking Jay's sex techniques, even though he is more than aware that they are complete, as he calls it, "bollocks". The reason he follows through with Jay's plan is because it his last option and will just do anything that could possibly result in what he is intending to do.

Simon is generally considered the most normal and casual of the group, possibly because his social problems are less distinctive. The main cause of Simon's poor social status is due to him hanging around with Will, Jay and Neil and also partly because of his lack of common sense and confidence, which leads him to make decisions that he often comes to regret.

Simon in the opening theme

Simon tries to be romantic around his love interests, but is not amazing with it. He has had a crush on Carli for a long time. Simon is a romantic at heart, believing in soulmates, and how he can finally win Carli's affections. One of the reasons why he could not get an erection, so he could have sex with Tara could be due to the fact he did not love her, always pushing it aside when she brought it up. Examples of his pure romantic view is when he makes a CD for Carli when they get together (if only for a few hours) and he finally tries to swim all the way to shore to win back Lucy's affections in The Inbetweeners Movie. Simon overthinks way too much when he has girls in mind, thinking he would be embarrassed if he did not get served a pint of lager because Carli would think he is pathetic, when really, a scenario like that would never occur.

Simon is socially-fine around his friends and strangers, but is terrible around his love interests, being extremely awkward around them. He is not very good with advice, but not as bad as Jay from a far distance. Although Simon is not that good at talking with girls, he surprisingly pulls many. It also does not take long for them to take an interest to him. Girls do not reveal that they have feelings for Simon, but it is obvious that they do and do later admit they do indeed have an interest in him.

Ooh friend

"Ooh, friend!"

Simon hates most of his relatives, mainly being the residents from the Cooper residence with a strong passion and constantly yells at them, saying extreme words and strong language. Even though most children would be told off for doing such a horrible thing, his parents do not care and just repeat their actions. Simon hates his little brother, Andrew Cooper the most. His parents made the rule for when Tara was around to keep the door open slightly, but ignored that. In The Fashion Show, Simon got so fed up with his family, after he saw them spying on him, as he was practicing his catwalk for his school's charity fashion show, that he yelled at them and went to sit on his back garden's shed roof because he did not want to spend another second in his house with the "utter twats". In a deleted scene, Simon's mother bought him a lunch box, whilst he was on the shed roof. He quickly placed it down and told her to "fuck off".

Sexuality

Simon is straight and does not show a single interest in men love-wise. He mocks homosexual people, mainly being Neil's father.

In the episode "Camping Trip", Will narrated at the beginning of the episode, saying "For a man with an internet history as exotic as Simon's, emergency family meetings were never good news.", implying that Simon mainly looks at porn online. In the episode "The Duke of Edinburgh Awards", Will and Simon have the conversation:

Simon: "I actually do loads of things in my spare time."
Will: "Masturbating doesn't count as a hobby, Simon."
Simon: "..."
Simon: "Oh, fuck it. Go on then."
, which proves that Simon masturbates.

Simon's Car

Simon driving his car

Simon drving in his car alone

In Thorpe Park, Simon passed his driving test and got his hands on a Fiat Cinquecento (Hawaii edition). At first, he absolutely hated his car, complaining to his father for getting it for him. One of the most strong reasons why Simon hated his car was because of its colour and the fact that it had a tape deck, moaning because it has no use, since you can no longer buy tapes anymore.

Just in a day, Simon learned to somewhat appreciate his car a bit and he was extremely angry at Jay, after he broke one of his car doors, by becoming impatient, in the looks for girls and opened the car door before Simon had parked it and was slammed against a lamppost. For the rest of that day, Simon was paranoid and anxious about his car, not knowing whether it could be repaired. He was convinced at one point that Neil's sister's boyfriend would be able to prepare it, but never ended up happening. The solution for this was to get another door, that unfortunately had to be a new colour. After just learning to slightly appreciate his car, Simon hated the idea of driving around with an odd door.

Spunk mobile

There have been times where Simon went mental over slightly bad and uncomfortable things happening to his car. A great example of this would be in Caravan Club when Neil "spunked" in his car and possibly a punk girl might have left some "juice" behind too. This made Simon go insane and demanded Neil to clean up his sperm.

Appearance

The outfit tara likes simon in

Eccentric Posh Child Simon

Simon is average height, with a distinctive fringe, spiked up with gel, which is commented by Jay to look like the Statue of Liberty's crown. Most people find him to be quite handsome, having had the most successful female attention and Carli even commented that he has a "great body". He has distinctive smiles, which make him look a little silly, but also very endearing. To school, he wears their blue jumper with a white shirt underneath and a tie, just like Neil and has never been shown wearing any different uniform from his school, besides on really rare instances, has worn just the white shirt. On special occasions, Simon puts more gel in his hair than usual. Simon does not seem to care about his appearance, other than having to be seen wearing the outfit he wore for a scene in Will's Dilemma, just to make Tara impressed because she loved and even "fancied" him in it.

In The Inbetweeners 2, Simon received a tattoo when he was in Vietnam.

Rudge Park Comprehensive Uniform

Simon's school uniform consists of: A white shirt with a short light blue tie with darker blue stripes going diagonal to the left and a blue jumper over it with the school logo at the top right and black trousers.

Casual

Whenever Simon is out with his friends, he usually wears striped shirts and either hoodies or jackets, consistently being grey. He likes wearing trainers and attempted to go clubbing in London, but could not go in because of his trainers, ending up having to buy shoes from a homeless man.

Friendships

Will McKenzie

Will and Simon

As was mentioned earlier, in Simon's first appearance and when he first met Will, he was seen in his classroom, which Will also went in. They first properly met when Gilbert assigned Simon to take care of Will, by showing him where the classes were. Simon kept complaining to Gilbert because he did not want to be seen with Will because of him having an "actual briefcase", "clumpy shoes", "gay hair", his blazer and his temporary welcome badge. Simon was trying to avoid Will, even though he had to show him around the school. Later throughout this episode, Simon did not mind Will as much as he used to and said to Jay and Neil that he was "alright", but got his hatred back for him, after he got everyone kicked out of a pub.

As time went by, Simon surprisingly became best friends with Will, coming to him first for advice and hanging-out with him more often than he usually did, to the point where Will invites him to his house willingly and even arranged a camping trip for him before he left Abbots Langley. He is also the only one to not instantly insult his car, seeing it from another point of view, but was not very satisfied with it having a tape deck, thinking the same thing as Simon. Out of Will, Jay and Neil, Will is the one who ultimately becomes Simon's truest friend and this shows in their constant support of one another, throughout The Inbetweeners and its movies.

Jay Cartwright

Jay and Simon

Jay and Simon

Jay and Simon have known each other since they were seven-years-old, yet they have a complicated relationship. Simon has never actually been best friends with Jay, mainly because of his lies, wanting him to not lie. Simon wants Jay to be straight-forward and tell him the truth, rather than making-up something completely false. In the episode "Xmas Party", he says that he would not care if he told the truth.

Simon falls out with Jay the many times, throughout The Inbetweeners, but they always get over it quickly and forget about it, still hanging around with each other for the sole reason that they are all that they have got.

They both like to make fun of each other in a friendly and not bully way, not trying to actually hurt or be rude to one or another.

Jay's behaviour and personality often leads to some of Simon's downfalls, such as: Letting Simon's car fall into a river, missing a golf tournament, opening Simon's car's door before parking, making it rip off because of a lamppost, falling into the ocean during their school trip, being throttled by a man at a bus stop, after Jay called him a "bus wanker" and gaining his nickname, "boner". Nearly every humiliating, dramatic, or disastrous moment for Simon is caused by Jay.

Jay and Simon have very different characteristics, but have been always been friends. Despite their differences and rivalry, when push comes to shove, they will both help one and other if they need to. An example of this would be in Will's Dilemma, when Simon told Will to apologise to Jay, after reminding him about his break-up with his ex-girlfriend, Chloe, when he could see that Jay was clearly upset.

In The Inbetweeners Movie, Jay and Simon fought in the street in Malia and temporarily fell out. However, the fall out didn't last long and the pair made up as friends.

Neil Sutherland

Two humans

Neil and Simon

Neil and Simon have quite a strong friendship, being best friends, just before Will came along. Neil tries to help Simon whenever he needs it, but is not very good with it. In The Inbetweeners Movie, Neil tried to comfort Simon when he was upset about his break-up with Carli.

Neil and Simon are not the bestest friends, but Simon definitely prefers him over Jay by far.

Simon, along with everyone else, is convinced that Neil's father is a homosexual and keeps thinking this, since there is no actual evidence that he is straight. Simon likes to rip on Neil for this, usually getting a response from Neil, saying something on the lines of "Oi, my dad's not bent!". Simon claims that the reason Neil's mother left was because of Neil's father's alleged homosexuality. Simon also claimed that for Neil's eighteenth birthday, his father could not afford any presents because he spent all of his money on butt plugs.

Romances

Carli D'Amato

1 CP43067499

Simon and Carli's families have always been very close to each other and Simon first developed romantic feelings for her, since they were both eight-years-old. The two have always been very good and close friends all their life and while Simon keeps desperately trying to ask her out, these attempts always have devastating and humiliating results for Simon and often others. Carli, on the other hand, likes Simon very much as a friend and bears no romantic feelings for him, yet kissing him from time-to-time. Despite their friendship, Carli is not above using Simon to her own advantage, such as when she gets him to help her revise Geography during the run-up to exam time, despite the fact that Simon does not study Geography, and in The Inbetweeners Movie, when Carli kisses him passionately on the party boat to get back at her boyfriend, who repeatedly abuses the gang. Simon eventually gets his intimate moment with her after helping Carli study, with the latter kissing him twice on the lips, giving Simon the impression that they were now dating, much to the disbelief of Jay, who tells Simon to "come back to him once you're wanking over her arse as she frigs herself off." Later, Simon was crushed, as Carli tells him that she was back with her old boyfriend, Tom - a massive rugby player. However, in Series 3's finale, Simon apparently got her back, after Jay, through Simon's mobile phone, told her that Simon, "loves her from the bottom of my cock.". This is confirmed at the beginning of The Inbetweeners Movie, when Simon and Carli are shown snogging in the latter's bedroom, though it is quickly followed by a crushing break-up, due to "their relationship being too hard to keep things going long-distance when the two go to uni", when the real truth was that Carli took an interest into her rep in Malia, who turned out to be Carli's new boyfriend. The rejection leaves Simon in tears, though he maintains his hopes for their relationship after spotting Carli in Malia due to Neil's extremely awful holiday planning. At the end of The Inbetweeners Movie, Simon realises that he means nothing romantic to Carli and her hold over him was finally broken.

In Series 1, Carli was with Tom for a while, breaking Simon's chances of making Carli his girlfriend. Simon, obviously, does not like Tom and denied the thought of them going out together, responding to one of Will's questions about the two, saying that he did not think that they were going out together. In Xmas Party, Simon was smiling when he saw Tom and Carli arguing with each other.

Lauren Harris

Simon hugging lauren

Simon hugging Lauren

Lauren originally was taking a liking into Will, whilst they were sitting on the bus journey to Swanage together, but may have messed it up when he made Yoda impressions, after finding out that she has a somewhat childish behaviour. After Simon took Will's spot, the two's friendship was slightly damaged. Will did not reveal this and took his anger out on a group of pigeons, saying to them "FUCK OFF, YOU BEADY-EYED LITTLE SHITS!". However, Carli ended up also taking a slight liking into Simon, which would leave Simon confused, since he did not want the responsibility to be in two relationships. Will then recommended Simon to go to Carli and offered for himself to sort out Lauren. Instead of "sorting out" her, Will said to Lauren that Simon dumped her, trying to get himself together with her, which remotely worked.

Tara Brown

2 JS242257505jpgT

Simon and Tara snogging

Tara is the first girlfriend Simon has ever had, that has been shown throughout The Inbetweeners. They first met eachother when Simon accidentally sat on her. He apologised for this and started a conversation with Tara. She informed him that she buys The Enemy every week, even though she thinks it is "shit", after Simon asked what she was reading. After this, the two's relationship was staying strong.

Whilst they were at a gig, Tara vomited over Simon's shoes and then started snogging, though Tara still had sick in her mouth and throat. In Will's Dilemma, Simon was willing to wear clothes, that Will described to look like an "eccentric posh child" just to please Tara, since she liked the style on him.

When they were together, Simon and Tara enjoyed being sexually-active, first time being when Tara gave Simon a handjob in Neil's bedroom. In Trip to Warwick, Tara thought that she and Simon had been in a relationship for enough time to have sex. After this discussion, they had awkward dirty talk together. Simon got stressed and did not know what he was going to do when he was thinking of what plan he should make. Since he could not think, Simon asked Jay for some tips and advice for what to do. Jay mainly focused on helping Simon to get an erection for then, but did not even work when the moment occurred.

To prove his "love" to her, Simon used to ditch his friends to spend time with Tara. When Jay was mocking him in The Gig and the Girlfriend, he said that Simon pretended to laugh at her "shit" jokes and listen to her also "shit" music.

Simon and Tara's relationship had ups and downs many times, commonly being downs. Simon firstly slightly messed-up his chances with Tara when he said the word "crap" in front of her parents. That same night, her parent's also saw the bumper sticker, that Jay and Neil put on the back of Simon's car. Simon kept getting his chances lower and lower due to his friends, when: Will ate a house plant out of peer pressure, Neil urinated all over a bedroom and Jay tried to seduce one of Sophie's friends, Heike into having sex, believing that she liked "young meat". The next morning after all of this mayhem commenced, Simon received a text from Tara, ordering him to never contact her again, thus ending their relationship for good.

Lucy

Simon first met Lucy when he and his friends went to a location, named "Marco's Nightclub", whilst they were all on holiday. Lucy was bearing romantic feelings towards Simon, yet he was not still over his break-up with Carli, never actually mentioning her name, hence he was afraid that Jay would punch his testicles. In the early times of them meeting eachother, they would both become closer and closer, until Simon mentioned or saw Carli, often ditching Lucy.

Lucy's feelings for Simon even run as deep as giving him her ticket to the boat party, thus handing him the way to win back Carli. Simon immediately took advantage of the offer, but later regretted it, as he realised that Carli has no feelings for him. After this, Simon decided to somehow prove his love to Lucy, by jumping off a boat.

Unfortunately, Lucy's personality went from a kind and polite girl to an abusive, obsessive, needy and clingy girl in The Inbetweeners 2, which would make Simon less-interested in her. After her personality change, Simon attempted many times to break-up with her, though it would always backfire.

Family

Alan Cooper

Alan embarrassing Simon in front of his friends

Simon and his father, Alan always argue at each other, yet their relationship seems to always stay strong. Simon will often ignore Alan, just like when he disobeyed the rule, that Alan and his wife, Pamela made, which was to keep Simon's bedroom door open whenever he had Tara in there with him.

Alan will sometimes have conversations with Simon about him and Pamela's sexual exploits, which will make Simon utterly disgusted and embarrassed, especially in front of his friends, which has happened a couple of times on The Inbetweeners, but probably has happened more times, though it has not been proven.

Alan will try to help Simon sometimes, once suggesting a suit to wear. He is the person to usually lend Simon money. They will occasionally have heart-to-heart conversations, which usually regard Alan's love-life.

Pamela Cooper

Pamela can simply say anything, not even remotely angrivating, which will always lead to her getting an infuriated Simon yelling at her in return. Simon always takes out all of his anger on Pamela for no absolute reason. When he was calling his school, predenting to be his mother, he put on a high-pitched voice, trying to actually make the voice convincing, when it did not work. Simon may have put this voice on because he may generally believe that Pamela's voice sounds strange.

Simon will sometimes not be even bothered to put in any work to his lies, not making them believable completely, once claiming the reason why he was not wearing his school uniform was because it was apparently a non-uniform day for year 12-13, when the true reason was because he was bunking off and therefore did not need to wear uniform.

Andrew Cooper

Andrew swearing at Simon behind Pamela

Simon hates his younger brother, Andrew with an extreme passion. Out of his whole family, Simon hates Andrew the most of his family.

Despite this, when Simon made his plans to leave his family and reside with Jay, after being informed that the residents from the Cooper residence were all going to move to Swansea, he invites Andrew (who promptly declines), however, this was probably used to make his parents more distraught.

"Erm, hello. I'm Simon. My mates call me Si.

I go to a fairly uninspiring school in a fairly uninspiring town. What can I tell you about Rudge Park? Well last year one kid wrapped a bike chain around Tony Garner's head because he tried to start a drama club. It's fair to say it's not a great school.

Part of the reason I stayed on was because the real nutters always leave after Year 11. Unfortunately someone forgot to pass this news on to Mark Donovan, so what's actually happened is that the pool of people he can bully has been massively reduced. Which if anything means I'm now much more likely to go the way of Tony Garner.

But it's probably worth it just to get the opportunity to see Carli D'Amato every single day. She's smart and funny and unbelievably hot. She's amazing. OK, I know she’s out of my league, but Christ, she's out of everyone's league. Stranger things have happened...

I can't think of any specific examples right now, but I know if I just spend some quality time around her, she'll start to see me for who I really am. And if I'm really lucky, I might get a sneaky look down her top when she's not looking.''"
